On the day of the “mid-term elections” in the United States, former US President Donald Trump complained about alleged voting irregularities – and called for protests. In Detroit, voters at the polls were told that they had already voted: “This is happening en masse, elsewhere. Protest, protest, protest!” Trump wrote on Truth Social, a social media platform he co-founded, on Tuesday.
Trump has not provided any evidence for his claims. But he also claimed that electronic voting machines didn’t work in conservative counties in the embattled state of Arizona. In a series of posts, Trump made further allegations of alleged fraud in the “mid-term exams” without any evidence, including writing: “Is the same thing happening to the election fraud as in 2020???”
Dark memories of presidential elections
To this day, Trump refuses to concede his 2020 election loss to Democrat Joe Biden and continues to claim that mass voter fraud robbed him of a victory. On January 6, 2021, the Capitol in the American capital Washington was stormed by Trump supporters. Several people died.
Trump chose internal party competitor DeSantis
According to his own statements, he supported Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis in the election on Tuesday. The 76-year-old showed up with his wife Melania at the Palm Beach polling station near his home in Mar-a-Lago, Florida. When a reporter asked him if he voted for DeSantis, Trump said, “Yes, I did.”
DeSantis, 44, is considered a potential presidential candidate for 2024 and Trump’s biggest internal competitor, having repeatedly declared his own candidacy and most recently promised a “very big announcement” for Nov. 15.
