Officials from the Vienna standby unit have come across a whole supply of illegal fireworks. Not in a shop, but in an apartment. A 14-year-old wanted to sell the illegal fireworks on the street.
Several tips had led the police to the track. The focus was on the Gutraterplatz area in Ottakring, where illegal fireworks were reportedly traded. In fact, officials were able to detain a 14-year-old during a priority action Tuesday afternoon and discovered several flashy firecrackers in his backpack – illegal in Austria. Banned because according to the police the explosive power is much higher than allowed in this country. Serious injuries – such as a blow trauma or injuries to the hands – would threaten in an emergency.
The teen confessed and led the police officers to his apartment. There they discovered the entire stock – 2000 illegal firecrackers. The man actually wanted to sell them on the street. He has been charged several times for violating the Pyrotechnics Act. The clean-up service took care of the clearing up of the fireworks.
