Representatives of CCOO, LAB, UGT, ESK, CGT and CNT They have warned Bizkaia Metal’s employers, FVEM, that the sector and the trade union majority are determined to go “to the end” to defend their working and living conditions.
This was announced during a joint performance in Bilbao to support their call for a new five-day strikefrom November 28 to December 2, to the workers of the sector in Bizkaia for “the immobility” of FVEM in the negotiations.
After recalling that after Tuesday’s meeting between the two parties, in which the employers appeared with a minimal improvement of only one percentage point salary increase, without guaranteeing the purchasing power in the tables and setbacks in flexibility, minimal guarantees and complementary IT , the trade union majority regretted that “FVEM again missed an opportunity”.
Asked about the possibility of an indefinite strike if there is still no progress at the negotiating table after this new round of strikes, LAB representative Iratze Azkue stated on behalf of those who are part of the inter-union that in their mobilizations they go “phase by phase” and in each of them they have provided the opportunity to negotiate.
“FVEM has lost another opportunity”
Regarding FVEM’s accusation in its statement after Tuesday’s meeting that the union’s position in the negotiations “appears to correspond more to electoral objectives than to real intentions of reaching agreements that benefit workers”, Azkue noted that, “exactly, that there’s this union unity so powerfulshows that where we don’t have the focus is on the union elections and yes, on the working conditions of this sector”.
On this point, the union representative has stated that the question to be asked to FVEM is “whether to defend that workers do not lose their purchasing power electoralismwhen the companies of the management committee of this employer register millionaire benefits“.
For her part, CCOO representative Marta Ayala has denied the accusation, adding that the unions are not there, they are “for the negotiations”, as “at no point is there an electoral goal but the same fight for a decent agreement and for not going back on that claim”.
Investigated for the reasons unity of action with THE A during the negotiations, both the CCOO representative and the LAB representative replied that it was ELA that left the inter-union and union unit, so “we have to ask them why,” Ayala confirmed.
