Car stopped – Strange man wanted to drive girl home

Date:

A few days ago in Oberschützen in Burgenland, a child was approached by a stranger.

The girl was on her way home from high school when it happened in the bus parking lot: a stranger stopped the car and spoke to the girl. He offered to take the student home by car. The girl considered getting on, but luckily a friend urged her to take the bus. That’s why nothing happened. In Oberschützen, people are currently on their guard and are asking for caution via social media.

Recently there were similar stories in Eisenstadt – here a girl was sexually assaulted – and in Parndorf – a man followed a child. Also in Neusiedl am See, two girls were approached from a car.

Children need to be made aware
“We have informed all schools about the incident,” explains Mayor Hans Unger (ÖVP). He appeals to all parents: “Please talk to the kids without frightening them. They should be instructed not to get into strangers’ cars.”

This is how children respond correctly
If children are approached by strangers, they should definitely draw attention to themselves, possibly yell out loud or go to other adults and ask for help. In addition, Unger calls for any incident in this direction to be reported to the police: “Every tip is important.”

The politician has two children of his own. The eldest goes to primary school and goes home alone every day. “We also talked to our son about how he should react if someone he doesn’t know addresses him,” said the mayor. “But of course you have thoughts and concerns when something like this has happened in the community.”
