Unlike our first report on the case that a Carinthian schoolboy misled a jury’s art connoisseurs with a stolen photograph, this one was not responsible at all.
“I’ve been dealing with the story since yesterday morning,” reports education director Isabella Penz. “We have been aware of the matter since October, but an important detail of the article is incorrect.”
For it was not a Carinthian student who was the responsible impostor, but a teacher. “We then immediately took all legal action,” confirms Penz, who did not name the school or the teacher. “Also to protect that student.”
Won the contest with a stolen photo
In the competition “Draw a rabbit – either according to your imagination or using the template” of the Upper Austrian stationery manufacturer Formatwerk in cooperation with the Viennese Albertina, students send in their entries every year. The basis for the works of art is the famous hare by Albrecht Dürer.
This year there was a rabbit with beret and scarf among the entries and it came from Carinthia. This particular bunny even won the entire competition and was printed on A3 drawing pads. The catch: the photo was stolen from the internet – you can buy the funny fake rabbit on a German platform for just under nine euros.
