Officer Vadim Boyko, 44, was shot five times in the chest in his office at the Naval Academy of the Russian Pacific Fleet in the city of Vladivostok. According to local media, the deputy director committed suicide. Boyko was reportedly involved in Putin’s mobilization campaign for the war in Ukraine.
Earlier, local media in the Primorsky Krai reported on their Telegram channel that Boyko had shot himself in the temple. However, the Russian internet portal Baza reported that the officer had shot himself five times in the chest. Despite all the inconsistencies, the Pacific Fleet press office announced that the 44-year-old had committed suicide.
Vladimir Oschenko, a local TV executive, also believes that Boyko died by suicide: “If officers start shooting themselves, something is wrong with the country and the civil service.” Oschenko confirmed on Facebook that Boyko’s suicide was caused by the Pacific Fleet Press Office and the fleet commander’s admiral advisers.
Conscripts heard five shots from the office
According to the banned Russian internet portal Meduza, Boyko was responsible for working with nine conscripts when five shots were heard in his office on Wednesday morning. A subordinate ran to his room to look and found the body. Investigators found five cartridge cases and four Makarov pistols at the scene. However, police have not yet commented on the officer’s death.
A month earlier, on October 14, the military commissar of the city of Partizansk – also in Russia’s Primorye region – was found dead. Police were investigating murder and suicide.
