Poultry mobile – the idea is convincing: stress-free slaughter for animals

Two and a half years ago, an idea was realized in Tyrol that enables the gentle slaughter of poultry directly on the farm. The butcher comes to the customer with a so-called slaughter vehicle. The concept convinces and continues to spread.

No stress for the animals and professional processing – that is the concept of mobile poultry slaughter, which the Tiroler Maschinenring (MR) has developed together with the Agricultural Chamber and the State Veterinary Office. Master butcher Martin Gröbner comes directly to the farm with the slaughterhouse – no animal transport is necessary. In the mobile slaughterhouse, the chickens, geese, turkeys or ducks are carefully stunned, slaughtered, plucked, gutted and pre-cooled.

This innovative form of on-site slaughter was introduced in Tyrol two and a half years ago. Now those responsible are drawing an extremely positive initial balance.

“Before, there was hardly any opportunity for direct marketers to slaughter poultry,” explains MR land manager Hermann Gahr. With the mobile poultry slaughterhouse, small entrepreneurs can now be offered crucial help. There is a high demand for this help. To date, 22,500 animals have been slaughtered in Tyrol. Other federal states are also following suit, explains MR chairman Christian Angerer. That is why he now also arranges this machine service in Vorarlberg, Styria and Carinthia.
