At least nine people have been killed in a gas explosion at a residential building on the Russian Far East island of Sakhalin. “At least two people are under the rubble,” the island’s governor, Valery Limanenko, said on his Telegram channel on Saturday.
The search for them continues, Limanenko reported. In addition, seven injured people have been hospitalized. According to local authorities, a gas bottle exploded in one of the apartments of the five-story building, causing part of the building to collapse.
The explosion took place in Tymovskoye, an urban settlement in the center of the island. A complete entrance to the five-story building was destroyed. So far nine people have been recovered during the rescue efforts, including four children.
