In Graz-Liebenau there were dramatic scenes on Monday evening: a motorist collided with the handlebars of a moped, the latter was seriously injured in the accident.
At around 8 p.m., a 25-year-old Slovenian motorist was driving southwest on the Liebenauer Gurtel. The driver had parked his car in the lane before the left turn and started to turn left onto the Autobahn ramp to the Südautobaan. He may have overlooked the oncoming moped rider, 16 years old and from Graz.
The young moped rider was traveling northeast on the Liebenauer Gurtel and wanted to continue straight ahead at the motorway entrance. There was a collision between the two vehicles.
Emergency surgery performed immediately
The moped rider fell after the collision with his single-track car and was seriously injured. The Red Cross took him to Graz Regional Hospital, where emergency surgery was performed and he was admitted to hospital.
The driver of the car suffered minor injuries from the shattered side window of his vehicle’s passenger door. No alcohol was found.
