Elias case – After child death: father again suspected of murder

Date:

After the violent death of little Elias on October 22 in an apartment in Salzburg, his father is now also in custody on suspicion of murder.

The public prosecutor’s office was successful in its appeal against the Salzburg magistrate’s decision. At the time of the first hearing, he did not assume that the father had a pressing suspicion of murder and only sent the boy’s 19-year-old mother into custody. For the father, the regional court initially only accepted the suspicion of “torture and neglect of minors” and therefore released him against more lenient remedies.

As Marcus Neher, the spokesman for the Salzburg public prosecutor’s office, confirmed by “Krone” when asked, the prosecution considers the father suspected of a negligent contribution. The Linz Supreme Court followed this view and sent the 25-year-old from Salzburg to jail on suspicion of murder.

Even reported to the police
According to information from Krone, the man turned himself in to the police on Tuesday evening after the decision was announced. His lawyer Kurt Jelinek says: “My client turned himself in to the police. They are two different decisions by two courts that should be noted.

Flashback: Little Elias died on October 22 at a shelter for people threatened with homelessness in the Riedenburg district of Salzburg. Because of the condition they were found in – the boy was already bluish, cold and stiff when rescuers arrived – investigators believe he died just hours before the father’s distress call.

An autopsy revealed shock trauma as the cause of death. A few days after the alleged infanticide, mother and father were arrested in the Salzburg station area. The mother was immediately taken into custody on suspicion of murder. The father was released in exchange for more lenient remedies.
