ELA won the factory union elections Mercedes Benz from Vitoriasurpassing the UGT, which prevailed four years ago, union sources have reported.

With the results obtained this Thursday, the union bloc that rejected the agreement last summer has ELA, LAB and ESKsurpass those who signed it with the direction of the multinational: UGT, CCOO, Ekintza and PIM.

Immediately 87.5% participation of the staff at the vote, ELA has 9 representatives in committee; UGT6; laboratory 5; CCOO 4; ESK 4 and Ekintza 1.

PIM, without representation

PIM, which had 3 representatives in the previous committee, is absent.

In the last election in November 2018, 31 members of the commission were elected, and today 29 have been elected due to staff reductions compared to last time.

Then UGT won with 7 delegates, just like ELA; CCOO and LAB gained 4 members each and Ekintza, PIM and ESK 3 representatives respectively.

The committee was chaired by Igor Gevara, from ELA, who, with the support of LAB and ESK and the abstention of the four CCOO members, surpassed the sum of the rest of the unions.

Two union blocs

In recent months there have been two very separate union blocs in the factory: UGT, CCOO, Ekintza and PIM on the one hand, and ELA, LAB and ESK on the other.

The former reached an agreement with the company’s management last July about the agreement to extend the collective agreementwhich was endorsed by 57% of the team after a year and a half of negotiations.

The referendum came after a few weeks of intense tension at the factory where production was halted for nine days due to strikes.
