Raid, 4 arrests – “lateral thinkers” planned kidnapping of Lauterbach

Date:

A group of so-called lateral thinkers apparently wanted to kidnap German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD). According to information from the ARD “Report Mainz” political magazine, they also allegedly had plans to cause a nationwide power outage by attacking substations and power lines to create conditions akin to civil war. According to RTL broadcaster, the Koblenz prosecutor’s office is investigating twelve men and women.

As “Report Mainz” reported, plans had become more concrete in recent days. The group wanted to buy weapons, mines and protective equipment for tens of thousands of euros. The transfer of two Kalashnikov weapons and five pistols should therefore take place on Wednesday in the small Rhineland-Palatinate town of Neustadt an der Weinstrasse. But the encounter was a trap for researchers.

The fall of the detective clap close to surrender
When the weapons were reportedly handed over, the “lateral thinkers” were arrested. In addition, other suspects were arrested in the course of Wednesday in the German states of Bavaria, Lower Saxony and Brandenburg. In a nationwide raid, the police searched a total of 21 houses and apartments and secured data carriers, computers and mobile phones. According to the Attorney General and the National Criminal Investigation Department (LKA) of Rhineland-Palatinate, the investigations against the groups have been ongoing since October last year.

Group organized via Telegram
The twelve suspects organized themselves into various right-wing extremist telegram groups, including the names “United Patriots” and “Active Patriots”. In it, some members fantasized about assassination attempts on politicians, gave each other tips about poison production and exchanged ideas about organizing weapons, German media reported.

“Report Mainz” has numerous chat histories of the “Active Patriots” group. They thus show a crude worldview between right-wing extremism, Prepper ideology and a rejection of the German federal government’s corona policy, for which Lauterbach, who had repeatedly reported threats against himself, is also responsible.

Minister of the Interior: “Serious threat”
After investigating possible bombings and kidnappings, German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser spoke of a “serious terrorist threat”. The SPD politician said in Berlin on Thursday: “The investigations reveal an abyss.”
