It wasn’t until Friday that another bank was robbed in Innsbruck. A day later, the police announced that they had arrested a suspected bank robber on Thursday. However, this would not be responsible for the most recent robbery, but for the one at a cashless bank in early September.
At the time, all of Tyrol laughed at the failed bank robber who had opted for a cashless bank in the capital. The initially unknown perpetrator had to flee without any loot. An immediately initiated search was unsuccessful. On the national holiday, almost two months later, the police announced that a suspect had been arrested two days earlier.
Suspect in custody, no confession
The man is a 42-year-old Russian who was arrested by officers of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Innsbruck on October 24 after an intensive search.
The suspect did not admit to the charges; he was initially taken to Innsbruck prison, where he is now in custody.
Police investigating “in all directions”
The man is certainly not a possible perpetrator of the bank robbery, which also took place in Innsbruck on October 25. According to Philipp Rapold, head of the robbery department at the LKA, there are currently no indications that the 42-year-old has any connection with the most recent bank robbery or any other. “But we do research in all directions.”
According to Rapold, some information about the bank robbery was received on Friday and the extent of the damage can now be precisely quantified: In total, the unknown perpetrator stole a low five-figure sum.
