Pfotenhilfe is currently tending to an injured swan rescued from Salzburg’s Bürmoossee. The animal was probably caught on a fishing hook.
Last weekend, an injured swan was brought from the Bürmooser See (Salzburg Flachgau) to the Tierschutzhof Pfotenhilfe in the Salzburg/Upper Austria border region and, according to passers-by, apparently got caught in a fishing hook of the fishermen present when swimming past. Initially, several attempts to get help or capture the animal failed.
Leg very swollen, infected wound
Hours later, when the weakened male was sitting on the bank, an animal lover restrained it and took it to the paw aid, where it received first aid. The swan has a badly swollen leg from an infected wound believed to have come from a fishing hook. He is currently being nursed back to health by the Pfotenhilfe team, is already on the mend and can be returned to his wife in a few days.
“The local lakes are dangerous places for animals,” Pfotenhilfe boss Johanna Stadler is convinced because of the frequent reports of injured animals. “Unfortunately, anglers leave various accessories of their hobby lying around or lose them in the water, which can be extremely dangerous or even deadly for all types of animals.”
