The Basque Institute of Consumption has indicated that prevention is the best action against the crisis in gas prices, so “it is advisable to look carefully at the bills”.
The Basque Consumer Institute-Kontsumobide recommends paying special attention to gas bills and reminds that consumers They are not required to pay gas bills that are more than six months late
In a statement, the Basque Consumer Institute indicated that the current situation of crisis and volatility of gas prices “may bring surprises and the best action against them is preventionit is therefore advisable to look carefully at the invoices, to ensure that the deadlines and billing details are correct and to check that the frequency of receipt of invoices has not changed”.
Kontsumobide notes an increase in complaints and questions caused by “too high” gas bills. Consumers complain that for a while no real measurements have been taken or even no invoice has been sent to them and then the marketing company bills them for all the accumulated consumption, the amounts of the invoice exceeding 1000 euros.
Faced with this situation, Kontsumobide has reminded that the gas consumption measurements should be bimonthly or monthly; gas marketing companies are not allowed to invoice consumption more than 6 months late and cannot declare this consumption.
Likewise, it has indicated that consumers who are required to pay for these billing delays or adjustments have the right to: share the costs up to 6 months.
If the consumer appreciates incorrect consumption measurements or lack of measurements, the recommendation is: facilitate consumption measurements to the trading company. For this you must use the telephone that must be on the gas bill for this.
In addition, if the consumer believes that his gas marketer is not complying with his rights, or in case of doubt, he recommends claim in the first place for the trading company itself and possibly later for Kontsumobide or the OMIC.
On the other hand, the Basque Institute of Consumption has emphasized that any consumer with an annual gas consumption of less than 50,000 KWh can benefit from the Last Resort Fee of the regulated market.
