An inmate from Korneuburg Prison in Lower Austria overstayed his release date on Sunday night and punched a police officer in the face in Vienna-Meidling. A similar case also occurred in Vienna-Simmering.
The officers were called to Tivoligasse at 3:30 a.m. because the 39-year-old had been arguing with a woman on the street. The heavily drunk man became aggressive and insulted the police officers. The fist was beaten during the arrest. Both officers had to retire wounded.
Locked up again
The identity check revealed that the man was a prisoner who had not returned. He was immediately transferred to Korneuburg. The Viennese police currently do not know when the detainee should actually be back and why he is serving a prison sentence.
Similar case in Simmering
In Vienna-Simmering, two police officers were also injured so badly on Sunday that they could not continue their work. The officials routinely paid a 31-year-old a visit to his apartment to conduct a so-called risk assessment under an upright entry ban. However, the man behaved aggressively, pushing one police officer against the wall and twisting one finger of the other. Eventually he was arrested.
