A beautiful necklace from the early Middle Ages has been found in an ancient grave in Northamptonshire. The approximately 1,300-year-old piece of jewelry, which dates from between 630 and 670 AD, was accidentally discovered during excavations for a new construction project in the spring.
As the Museum of London Archeology (MOLA) announced Tuesday, the necklace, which consists of at least 30 pendants made from Roman coins, gold and semi-precious stones, was found along with other finds from an earlier burial site.

According to the MOLA archaeologists, it should have come from a high clergyman or aristocrat, the experts analyzed on the basis of the finds. It is perhaps the most important early medieval female burial ground ever discovered in Britain.
