Iranian actress Taraneh Alidoosti, regarded as one of the best actresses in Iran, has been arrested on charges of inciting riots in her country, according to some local media.
According to Hamshahri onlinethe artist was arrested “for her actions in posting false and distorted content, inciting riots and supporting anti-Iranian movements.”
Tarane Alidoosti (Tehran, 1984), has won several awards during her career and was the protagonist of the film “The Salesman” (“Forushandeh” in Persian), directed by her compatriot Asghar Farhadi in 2016 and which won the award in 2017 Oscar for Best Foreign Film.
The arrest of the actress is said to be related to protests in Iran that began over the death of Mahsa Amini after she was arrested by vice police in September for not wearing the Islamic veil properly, but protesters are now calling for ending the Islamic Republic founded by Ayatollah Ruholá Khomeini in 1979.
After nearly three months of mobilizations, with more than 400 dead and thousands of arrests, authorities have begun executing demonstrators to control mobilizations led mainly by young people and women demanding more freedoms.
