Nine fire brigades of Carinthia were on duty with 180 emergency services on Sunday evening due to a house fire. The five residents managed to get to safety. The building was a total loss.
Large-scale action in the village of Witsch (municipality of Moosburg): “Several fire brigades from Moosburg, Feldkirchen and Klagenfurt were deployed,” announced the state alarm and warning center. At around 6:30 p.m., a fire broke out in the basement of an apartment building. According to the emergency services, five people were able to save themselves and were not injured.
Around 8 p.m. the sad news: “We are talking about total loss. The house is uninhabitable,” says Martin Klatzer of the Tigring fire brigade. “The fire appears to have started at a wood stove in the basement,” he reports, adding: “The exact cause is still unclear, and fire investigators will clarify that on Monday .”

The mayor of Moosburg, Herbert Gaggl, was also present. “The family was sitting in the living room when they suddenly noticed that the balcony was on fire,” says the community leader. “Fortunately, the residents were able to leave the house. They were unharmed,” the community leader breathes a sigh of relief. The family has been placed with relatives. Gaggl is grateful for the neighborhood’s helpfulness: “People brought tea and quickly rushed to help. It’s nice when everyone helps together.”
The damage is likely to run into the hundreds of thousands of euros. Officials from the state criminal investigation department will begin investigating the cause of the fire on Monday.
