The Russian offensive war against Ukraine has existed for 300 days on Tuesday. According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the invading forces have lost nearly 99,000 soldiers so far. “In a few days, the occupier’s losses will reach 100,000,” Zelenskyj said in his video address on Monday evening. The Russian troops would grit their teeth to take the eastern Ukrainian city of Bakhmut.
The Russian leadership in Moscow is pointlessly wasting human lives: “Not that of their relatives, not their own life, but that of others,” Zelenskyj said Monday. For security reasons, both sides have not provided more detailed information on the losses suffered by the Russian and Ukrainian forces. Western military officials recently put the number of dead and wounded Russian soldiers at more than 100,000.
“Bakhmut is the hottest point on the entire front line,” the Ukrainian head of state stressed in his speech. Since May, soldiers loyal to Moscow have been trying to break the city, “but time passes and Bakhmut breaks not only the Russian army, but also the Russian mercenaries who came to replace the wasted army of the occupier,” Zelensky said. With this he referred to the Wagner group, which played a decisive role in the battle for the city.
Group of Wagner burned recruits
According to the British secret services, the mercenary group uses recruits as cannon fodder. Some recruited soldiers were therefore given a smartphone or tablet with which they could see their predetermined attack route and their target via satellite imagery. They were given fire cover for this advance, but rarely armored vehicles.
“Wagner members who deviate from their attack routes without authorization are likely to be summarily executed,” the defense ministry said in London on Monday. The commanders would be informed via drone images from protected positions.
“Cruel Tactics”
“These ruthless tactics aim to preserve Wagner’s rare reserves of experienced commanders and armored vehicles at the expense of more readily available convict recruits, whom the organization considers expendable,” the British ministry said. Wagner has been recruiting new fighters in prisons for months.
Since the start of the Russian offensive war against Ukraine at the end of February, the British Ministry of Defense has been publishing information on the course of the war on a daily basis, citing intelligence information. With this, the British government wants to both counter the Russian image and keep allies in line. Moscow accuses London of a disinformation campaign.
