“It’s true” – Corruption scandal: Kaili made a partial confession

Date:

Belgian prosecutors suspect Greek MEP Eva Kaili of taking bribes from World Cup host Qatar to influence European Union policy in one of the country’s 27 biggest scandals. Kaili was subsequently arrested. Now she has described individual allegations as “true”.

Kaili admitted to Brussels investigating judge Michel Claise that she was aware of the bribery ring involving her husband Francesco Giorgi and former MEP Antonio Panzeri.

Father should hide money in her house
“It’s true. I knew about Mr. Panzeri’s activities,” she quotes the daily newspaper “La Repubblica”. Le Soir reports that Kaili admitted at the hearing that she had instructed her father to hide a large portion of the money in her house. So you knew about the money.

The Panzeris network is central to the investigations of the Belgian judiciary. The Brussels public prosecutor’s office is sure that he pulled the strings when it came to influencing political and economic decisions of the EU Parliament in favor of countries such as Qatar or Morocco.

There are new allegations
The European Public Prosecutor’s Office requested on Thursday that Kaili’s immunity be waived (see video above). According to the public prosecutor, it concerns the suspicion of “fraud to the detriment of the EU budget” and the remuneration of parliamentary staff.
