An initially unknown man in the Wattenbach in the center of Wattens in the Tyrolean Unterland (Innsbruck-Land district) carried out a major search on Saturday evening. He was eventually found completely soaked on an embankment at the roundabout at the Inntalautobahn. The background may have been a relationship dispute.
Saturday at 2.15 am a witness raised the alarm. He had been watching the stranger in Bahnhofstrasse when he jumped into the creek. “When we got to the scene, there was no one to be seen,” said Martin Schrott, commander of Wattens’ volunteer fire brigade. The unknown was believed to have broken down.
Big search in the middle of the night
“After that, we activated Inn’s special alarm plan,” says Schrott. The troops occupied all Inn bridges up to Terfens and relieved the river. The Innsbruck and Schwaz water rescue services and the Innsbruck professional fire brigade with lifeguards arrived. The paper mill fire department searched the area – all in vain.
Around 3 a.m. the professional fire brigade discovered a completely soaked man on the embankment of the roundabout at the A12 Inntalautobahn. “It was the person you were looking for,” says Schrott. The 21-year-old Amsterdammer was taken to hospital. A relationship dispute may have prompted the jump in the creek.
