Serious accident Saturday on the Tyrolean Fernpass: A fully occupied Dutch holidaymaker went off the road and fell ten meters over the dike in the adjacent forest. The mother and a child were injured. The B179 had to be closed for a short time.
The accident happened around 12:30 in the municipality of Nassereith (Imst district): A 52-year-old Dutchman drove his car from the Ausserfern towards the Inntal. Also on board were his wife (50) and their three children.
“The car eventually skidded on a right-hand bend. The driver lost control of the wheel, after which the car went over the edge of the road and fell about ten meters over the dike into an adjacent forest area,” the police said.
Mother and child to hospital
Two people – the mother and a child – suffered serious injuries. After first aid at the scene of the accident, they were taken by ambulance to Zams hospital.
B179 closed for half an hour
The car was badly damaged. During the recovery of the vehicle, the B179 in this area had to be closed to all traffic for approximately 30 minutes.
