That was not such a smart idea: late Sunday afternoon in the Tyrolean Pitztal, a Russian snowboarder wanted to ski down a closed version of a descent. He was surprised by the onset of darkness. The winter sports enthusiast is lost.
Such “experiments” should not be risked, especially shortly before closing time! Around 4 p.m., the Russian decided to snowboard on the Pitztal Glacier via a closed, unprepared variant descent to the valley. “He was surprised by the darkness,” the police report.
Concerned companion made a distress call
The Russian got lost in the terrain. When he still hadn’t arrived at the agreed meeting point at around 6:15 p.m., his companion made a distress call.
Found three hours later
A search was launched in which mountain rescuers, employees of the Gletscherbahn and the Alpine Police took part. The man was finally found around 9:15 p.m. and rescued unharmed.
