Four minors stole a vehicle in Linz and were chased by police as they fled onto the A7. There were dangerous scenes. 22 police patrols were involved in the pursuit. The 14-year-old driver eventually lost control and collided with two other cars.
The four suspects are 13 (one) and 14 years old – two of them (a Romanian and a Bosnian) are already known to the authorities. The underage quartet is said to have stolen a VW Golf in the south of Linz in the morning hours on Wednesday. The vehicle was sighted near Traun in the early afternoon and a police blockade was later set up.
Tried to ram a police car
The driver (a 14-year-old Romanian) is said to have driven straight into a patrol car at too high a speed. Police officers were only able to avoid a head-on collision at the last minute through an evasive maneuver. “Only a few centimeters were missing,” says Heide Klopf of the state police. With speeds of up to 150 km/h in built-up areas, the four teenagers would have temporarily escaped the management.
pushed up
However, the VW Golf was spotted again on the A7 and the chase resumed. The escape went via the Freistädterstrasse to Mittertreffling. Klopf: “There the 14-year-old drove back onto the A7 towards Linz.” About two kilometers later, the young driver wanted to overtake a police car, but the Golf crashed into the car of a woman from Innsbruck (41) and then collided with a 33-year-old car from Gallneukirchen.
arrests
Both drivers and three of the four boys were injured. “The quartet was arrested, the 13-year-old and two of the 14-year-olds were later released,” said Klopf. Upon his arrest, the 13-year-old resisted and injured a police officer, he was later handed over to his mother. The Romanian was taken to prison. All cars were a total loss.
