Steyr police rescued a man floating in the water on Monday morning. It had fallen into the river Steyr near the weir ditch. A jogger had previously been unable to save the victim.
The 39-year-old had apparently fallen into the Steyr Wehrgraben while feeding the fish. He lost his balance and fell into the cold river. The man was then unable to climb ashore on his own.
A passerby raised the alarm
A passerby recognized the life-threatening situation. The jogger, who was walking her dog, threw the leash at him, but was unable to pull it out on his own. She raised the alarm via emergency call. Four police officers immediately rushed to the Steyrer River and managed to pull the victim out of the water. The hypothermic and shocked 39-year-old was taken to hospital by ambulance.
