More and more EU countries are tightening entry requirements for travelers to China. Germany has now introduced a corona test obligation. According to German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach, arrivals from China will require at least one rapid antigen test in the future.
Health experts from the 27 EU countries disagreed on Wednesday evening that travelers from China should get tested, but strongly recommend it. In addition, wearing a medical or FFP2 mask on board aircraft from China is recommended.
In addition to Germany, there are also national solo efforts in Italy, France, Sweden and Belgium. In Sweden, people arriving from China must be tested negative from Saturday and initially for three weeks. It was purely a “precautionary measure,” Swedish Social Affairs Minister Jakob Forssmed said at a joint press conference with Sweden’s health authority on Thursday. The obligation should not apply to Swedish citizens, it said. Adults and young people from the age of twelve must submit a test.
Belgium also follows the recommendation of mandatory inspection for travelers from the People’s Republic, which the EU states agreed on Wednesday. As the Belga news agency reported, travelers on direct flights from China will have to submit a negative corona test before departure. Minister of Health Frank Vandenbroucke announced this on Wednesday after the EU consultations.
Waste water analysis in aircraft
A corresponding royal decree could be published on Saturday. Belgium had previously decided to examine the waste water from aircraft arriving from China for possible new virus variants. The analyzes start on Saturday.
