A 55-year-old man crossed the railway line near Kammern in Styria on Saturday afternoon. What he failed to notice: the approaching train. A collision was inevitable, but the man was unharmed and was even reported.
Mautern station: That should actually be the destination for a 55-year-old from the Liezen district. In Liezen, the man got on the train on Saturday afternoon, he had his bicycle with him.
But he forgot to get off the train at the right time – and the misery began: the man got off at the next station in Kammern and came up with the idea of cycling back to Mautern.
Train threw the bike aside
Not knowing the place, he used a path that ended in a dead end. The 55-year-old did not want to make a long detour and decided to cross a double-track railway line with his bicycle.
What he failed to notice: an Intercity was approaching the intersection! As a result, the man’s bicycle was caught by the train and thrown aside.
Man removed damaged wheel
And man? He had left the tracks earlier and luckily was unharmed. The man from Liezen then removed the damaged bicycle on a slope of the Liesingbach, continued on foot and then hitchhiked to Mautern.
Of course the train driver reported the accident. The search for a supposedly injured person began and the route was immediately closed. The lockdown lasted an hour and a half in total.
When the broken bicycle was finally found, the corresponding handlebar was found a little later, and it immediately revealed itself. He is now reported by the public prosecutor’s office in Leoben and the responsible district in Leoben.
