Hundreds of thousands of Austrians are currently receiving e-mails from the court: they are accused of child pornography – and asked to pay.
Numerous questions also came directly from the instrumentalized court involved – to which the authority immediately announced via broadcast: “It is noted that the contents of this letter have no real connection with decisions of the Federal Administrative Court and have no legal effect.”
Which should mean in simplified terms: the email allegedly sent by the Federal Administrative Court is fake – under no circumstances follow the payment requests! The authorities have already passed on the facts to the security authorities.
Threatened with imprisonment
In the name of a real judge, including a forged signature, the email informs you that Interpol is targeting you for child pornography on your own PC. However, with a written statement and the transfer of a fine of 2945 euros, the case could be settled. Otherwise there will be an arrest warrant…
According to the chief investigator of the federal criminal investigation department, Reinhard Nosofsky, the tracks lead to France, as he explains in an interview with “Krone”:
“crown”:Mr. Nosofsky, how many victims fall for such extortion fraud emails and money transfers?
Reinhard Nosofsky: The number of unreported cases is very high in such crimes – and the question can therefore hardly be answered. Many victims find it too embarrassing to inform the authorities of such allegations. Due to the increasing number of cases, we set up our own investigation service at the Federal Criminal Investigation Department in 2020.
Who is behind these extortion emails?
Experience shows that the traces lead to France, to gangs with African roots. But no matter how “professional” the email looks, a glance at the sender’s address is usually enough to unmask the fraud. The text is also mostly poorly translated.
