After the attack with a stabbing weapon at the Gare du Nord train station in Paris, the French judiciary launched an official investigation against the suspect and ordered him to be taken into custody. As announced by Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau, the man is being investigated for attempted murder.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the motive and the exact identity of the suspect are still unclear. An investigating judge will now lead the investigation.
Stopped by bullets
The 31-year-old man injured seven people at Paris North station on Wednesday morning. According to the initial investigation results, he stabbed his victims with a metal hook for no apparent reason. The man was shot by police officers as he was arrested and taken to a hospital. When he recovered, he was taken into custody. Investigators do not rule out that he suffers from a mental illness.
Numerous trains from the Paris region arrive at Paris North station, as do Thalys trains from Germany and Belgium and Eurostar trains from London. About 700,000 people travel every day, and 220 million a year.
