Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has sharply criticized Germany’s hesitant attitude to possible supplies of main battle tanks to his country. “You are grown people. You can talk like this for six months, but here people die – every day,” Zelenskyj said in an ARD interview that aired Thursday evening. “In plain language: can you supply leopards or not? Then hand it over!” he shouted in the direction of Berlin.
“It’s not like we’re going to attack if someone’s worried. These leopards aren’t driving through Russia. We’re defending ourselves.”
At the same time, the Ukrainian head of state emphasized the military aid that had already been provided: “We are grateful. I want everyone to hear this: we are grateful to Germany.”
Ukraine has been resisting Russia’s offensive war for nearly 11 months and is largely dependent on Western support for military equipment.
On Friday, the Western Allies will meet in Ramstein, Rhineland-Palatinate, to discuss further arms deliveries to Kiev – the delivery of main battle tanks is eagerly awaited. Great Britain has already announced it, Poland and Finland are prepared to do so in the European association.
