Once again, the Viennese police had to conduct a chase through several districts in order to get a driver with dangerous driving off the road. The speed demon did not want to give up on Monday evening, even when the car was surrounded by several patrol cars: the driver tried to break through the artificial “barrier” – the result was not to his liking…
Around 4:30 a.m., the snaking lines driven by the driver caught the attention of the officers. But again the driver escaped control and sped away. “The journey was over several streets from the 15th arrondissement through the 12th arrondissement to the 10th arrondissement, where the 31-year-old eventually drove across the distribution circle to the A23 and the S1 towards Schwechat,” police spokeswoman Barbara Gass reported. on Tuesday.
Tire damage became fatal
Probably not least because of the excessive speed, the driver lost control of the vehicle during the flight and ended up on the pavement – resulting in two damaged tires, which he would undo a little later. On the highway, the speeder performed daring overtaking maneuvers and used the hard shoulder to do so. However, the tire damage caused him to skid soon after and the rampage ended at the crash barrier.
Cornered, three officers slightly injured
But the 31-year-old was not thinking about giving up. When several patrol cars positioned themselves around the badly damaged car to block any escape route, the suspect accelerated again. He rammed into a patrol car. However, this only meant that the getaway car was no longer roadworthy. While the driver was apprehended, his 36-year-old passenger attempted to flee on foot, but did not get far. He vehemently resisted his arrest, in which three police officers were slightly injured. But that shouldn’t help either. The man has also been arrested.
The reason for the escape soon became clear: the number plates had been reported stolen and the officers also found two other number plates – also stolen – in the car. The 31-year-old driver was himself under the influence of drugs and did not have a driver’s license. He remained silent during questioning, while the 36-year-old passenger denied all allegations.
The 31-year-old was taken to prison and his passenger was released.
