When selling a sports car – luxury fraudster caught after deal with counterfeit money

Date:

Good luck to the Rip Deal Unit Vienna! The LKA officials from Vienna snapped an Italian (41) who is said to have cheated two Styrians in the fashion metropolis of Milan.

Luxurious hotels, insanely expensive timepieces on the wrist, the most delicious wines to sip and the most delicious food to feast on – this is the atmosphere in which so-called luxury fraudsters work. This also happened in September 2019 in a noble accommodation in the Italian fashion metropolis of Milan. A couple of brothers from Styria (34, 36) were locked up there by two luxury scammers. The two Austrians had previously placed an advertisement on the internet to sell their sports car.

Side issue as a trap
“It would have been agreed that, before the car is bought, the alleged buyers also want to buy a luxury watch and gold coins from the brothers as a ‘side business’,” said Vienna police spokesman Markus Dittrich. But after cash and goods changed hands, it turned out that the two Styrians had counterfeit money in their hands.

Dittrich continues: “The Rip Deal Unit Vienna, which was set up especially for this type of crime by the State Criminal Investigation Department in Vienna, then proceeded to investigate at full speed. After months of intensive investigation, with the support of the Federal Criminal Police Office and police officers from Switzerland, “It was possible to track down the two suspected scammers. In April 2022, one of the two suspects, a 41-year-old Italian, was arrested in Croatia.”

The alleged luxury fraudster has since been extradited to Austria and is in prison. An accomplice is still being sought.
