Out of anger and jealousy, young man tyrannized family in Leibnitz

Because she was open and revealing on her social media channels, an 18-year-old from the Leibnitz district of Styria fell victim to a 24-year-old. He left threatening letters in front of her family’s house, vandalized vehicles and made false reports against the family. Now he has been arrested.

The story started in 2020. The 18-year-old was friends with a friend of the man (24) at the time. Since then, the two have had sporadic contact. But the girl had no idea that he was behind the crimes that have haunted her and her family since 2022.

Multiple threatening letters filed
The initially unknown perpetrator called the girl’s family several times from May of this year, made false reports anonymously and left threatening letters in front of the apartment building on several occasions. In addition, a vehicle parked in front of the house was smeared and the facade of the house was damaged. In addition, public buildings in Graz and in the Graz area were defaced with graffiti referring to the 18-year-old daughter of the family.

24-year-old investigated
After extensive investigation, officers of the Heimschuh Police Inspectorate examined a 24-year-old man from Graz. The suspect was arrested at his home address on 23 January 2023 by agents of the Task Force Combating Street Crime. More threatening letters addressed to the family were seized during the house search.

Anger and jealousy as motives
When questioned, the suspect confessed fully.
As a motive, he gave jealousy and anger over the 18-year-olds’ overt and revealing behavior on various social media channels. The suspect was taken to Graz prison.
