Current figures show that more and more doctors are leaving the Viennese clinics. The Department of Internal Medicine leads the list in terms of departures.
A few weeks ago, a survey showing that two-thirds of hospital doctors in Vienna were thinking about resigning caused a stir. However, a new question from the Councilor of Health Peter Hacker (SPÖ) confirms that there are already numerous departures from Viennese hospitals.
When enumerating the working doctors, there is a loss of doctors in almost every specialty. This shows a comparison between the doctors who leave (quit, retire) and how many new doctors are hired.
1st place in internal medicine
Internal medicine is the leader, with more than 50 fewer doctors working there since 2017. In percentage terms, child psychiatry and dermatology lost the most medical staff with about a third. In general, the number of departures is significantly higher than the number of retirements.
“Pensions remain a major challenge. However, the loss of staff in hospitals in almost every area is alarming,” said ÖVP health spokeswoman Ingrid Korosec.
The Hackerbureau says: “Of course it is in the interest of both the WIGEV employees and the patients and residents to fill vacancies in the company as quickly as possible. Numerous national and international recruitment measures are being taken to combat the staff shortage. ”
