Minus in the hospitals – Corona: increase in positive tests among younger people

Date:

The Covid forecast consortium continues to expect a decrease in the number of infected people in the normal wards of the hospitals – there are currently about 600 corona patients there. According to Wednesday’s update, the number of plaques in intensive care units should remain about the same for the next two weeks. In terms of generally positive tests, there was a downward trend among the over-65s, but there was a stable to slightly increasing trend among the younger population groups.

The wastewater monitoring data does not currently indicate a clear trend development in new infections, explained the model calculators of the TU Vienna, MedUni Vienna and Gesundheit Austria GmbH (GÖG). According to information on the AGES website, the number of cases has risen slightly over the past week.

Earlier, from the end of December, there was a decrease in new cases, and here “a plateau has now been reached”. The number of tests has been lower since calendar week 51 than in previous months.

390 to 661 SARS-CoV-2 infected people expected
According to the forecast, 390 to 661 SARS-CoV-2 infected people are expected in normal wards on February 8, with an average of 507 beds, compared to 608 on Tuesday (yesterday). However, the drop in reported hospital occupancy is partly due to the reduction in testing on asymptomatic people, it was stressed. Recently, 51 seriously ill Covid patients were in the country’s intensive care units.
