After a summer with record temperatures of over 40 degrees in some places, heavy snowfall in recent days has transformed the mountains of Mallorca into a white winter landscape. According to the national Spanish weather service, the snow line on the popular holiday island was around 800 meters on Thursday.
Photos showed snowy forests and slopes of the Serra de Tramuntana.
The highest mountain in this almost 90 kilometer long mountain range from the southwest of the island to the northeast is the Puig Mayor with 1445 meters. Hikers posted photos of these mountain ranges on social networks that looked like they came from the Alps.
In the lower parts of the island, such as in the capital Palma, the snow did not stay. But it was also uncomfortable and cold and wet, which people felt in the less well-insulated houses. The winter weather should continue for the next few days, but the weather should become milder from Sunday.
