A gas station near the distribution center in Vienna-Favoriten was attacked by two men at 05:30 on Thursday. They first tried to open the cash register while two employees were in the warehouse.
When an employee entered the store, he was threatened with a firearm. He gave the robbers money and they fled. A search of the house was unsuccessful, the state’s criminal investigation department took over the investigation and called for witnesses at every police station.
Suspect recognized by officers
The police arrested another robber on Wednesday afternoon at Urban-Loritz-Platz in Vienna-Neubau. The man was already wanted for four property crimes in the past three days. Officials from the police command of the city of Josefstadt recognized him on patrol, it said Thursday.
The 31-year-old was arrested and, after an interrogation in which he refused to testify, was taken to a prison by order of the Vienna public prosecutor’s office. He is charged with, among other things, attempted burglary in a doctor’s office and attempted robbery of a tobacconist.
