Complaints from neighbors led to a surprising discovery in a cellar alley in Hadres, Lower Austria, on Thursday. A 54-year-old Rijksburger had taken up residence – albeit illegally – in one of the cellars with his wife and five children. When the family was discovered, the man attacked before barricading himself with his wife and children.
In response to complaints from residents, a representative of the Hollabrunn district and an employee of the municipal office checked the address on Thursday afternoon, according to the management. When the 54-year-old was discovered, he greeted the two men with pepper spray and wounded them. The victims then called the police.
Woman and five children found in wine cellar
The wine cellar was opened and searched by order of the public prosecutor’s office in Korneuburg. There were the man’s 40-year-old partner and five children aged five, four, three and two and a seven-month-old baby. Since the identity of the children could not be clarified, according to the police, they were temporarily transferred to the care of the social work department of the district administration.
According to the couple, it should be about the common offspring. According to the statements, the children were born in England, they cannot be registered in Austria. The 54-year-old was provisionally detained and will be reported to the public prosecutor’s office after the investigation has been completed on suspicion of resistance to state authority.
