Gunmen stormed a birthday party in South Africa, killing eight attendees. The two attackers fired indiscriminately at guests in the port city of Gqeberah, police said Monday. According to the police, the owner of the house who organized the celebration was among the fatalities.
The mass shooting took place between 5:15 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Sunday at a home in South Africa’s Oskap province. Police said the background to the horrific act was still unclear. The killers are on the run, but according to the police, a search is already underway. Eight people were killed. Police have not named the victims, but have confirmed that the owner of the house was one of them.
“These victims were killed by criminals and we will not rest until we find out what happened and who was responsible for (this) ruthless and cold-blooded attack on these unsuspecting victims,” Eastern Cape SAPS officer Nomthetheleli told Lillian Mene.
About twenty killed in attacks on bars
South Africa has one of the highest murder rates in the world. Last year, about 20 people were killed in a series of gun attacks at several bars in the Johannesburg suburbs and in the eastern city of Pietermaritzburg.
