Next act planned? – Alleged monkey thief arrested in Dallas

Date:

Dallas, Texas, police have arrested a suspected thief suspected of stealing two monkeys from a zoo. The handcuffs clicked as the 24-year-old possibly plotted his next pet heist at the Dallas Aquarium (a 10-minute drive from the Dallas Zoo, the latest crime scene). The suspect could be responsible for more strange happenings at the zoo.

The 24-year-old has been linked to the mysterious disappearance of two emperor tamarins from the city’s zoo. The monkeys themselves disappeared Monday, but were discovered the next day in the closet of an empty house in a Dallas suburb.

According to media reports, the arrested person was said to have lived in the house without permission. He is charged with animal cruelty, according to police. The two primates had lost some weight, but are otherwise doing well, the zoo had previously announced on Twitter.

Big cat escapes through hole in fence
Police hope the arrest sheds light on a series of mysterious incidents that have plagued the Dallas Zoo in recent weeks. According to media reports, a clouded leopard had already escaped from his enclosure in mid-January. The leopard-like feline escaped through a hole in the fence that police said was deliberately cut in its perimeter. The animal was sighted a short time later and captured.

Just a week later, however, the zoo made a sad discovery: a critically endangered lappet-faced vulture was found dead. The 35-year-old bird did not die of natural causes, it said. The zoo then installed additional surveillance cameras.

Zoo remains closed
Due to the many incidents, the zoo has announced that it will remain closed until further notice. “For the safety of our guests and employees, we remain closed today as we continue to clean up,” the management said on Twitter.
