A 26-year-old has been sentenced to the rest of his life in prison for the murder of British MP David Amess. Judge Nigel Sweeney of London’s Old Bailey Criminal Court said on Wednesday that it was the right decision that the man had no chance of parole. The convict, who is considered a lone Islamist and supporter of the Islamic State terrorist militia, showed no remorse.
He was found guilty on Monday of stabbing the Tory MP to death in October 2021 during a citizens’ consultation in his constituency in Essex, England. The act caused horror across the country and sparked a new debate over the safety of MPs.
The 26-year-old is considered a lone Islamist and supporter of the Islamic State terrorist militia. He says he committed the murder to avenge Amess’ approval for airstrikes on Syria in 2014 and 2015. He showed no remorse during the trial.
