The police had plenty to do on a grid square in Vienna on Saturday. Drivers were reported 634 times for speeding. The highest speed limit was recorded by a driver on the Ostbahn accompanying road in Donaustadt, who drove 102 km/h instead of the permitted 30 km/h.
Police spokesman Markus Dittrich said on Monday that the speed demon was at risk of having his driver’s license revoked. A 20-year-old man who drove his car under the influence of drugs has been removed from traffic on the Währinger Gurtel in the Alsergrund district. The vehicle also showed various technical defects. The test driver’s license was taken from the 20-year-old. The young man stood out for his aggressive driving style and for ignoring a red traffic light. 100 ecstasy pills were found with his 18-year-old passenger and he was arrested.
Loud exhaust, but no driver’s license behind it
A 23-year-old was also arrested at the Währinger Gurtel who had five people with him. The driver became aggressive when the number plates had to be removed due to technical defects on the car. Another car was stopped for making “extremely loud” exhaust noises, Dittrich said. However, the 23-year-old driver did not have a driver’s license. The 19-year-old passenger was arrested – due to open fines of almost 8500 euros.
39-year-old tried to hide behind car
And in the Landstrasse district, a 39-year-old was arrested. He refused an alcohol test and tried to hide behind the vehicle. “When the officers discovered him, he was extremely aggressive, insulting and spat at the police officers, which eventually led to his arrest,” said the police spokesman.
In total, the focus of the check reported four arrests, eight license plate checks due to imminent danger, four driving license tests and four reports of missing driving licenses. There were also 126 body mandates for various administrative violations and 634 reports of excessive speed.
