Berlin clarifies: – Fighter jets for Ukraine currently “no problem”

Date:

On the sidelines of Western allies’ talks on further arms deliveries to Ukraine, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock confirmed on Tuesday that the German government is not currently considering supplying fighter jets.

Clear words from Berlin following the meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels and Ukraine’s renewed demands for further arms shipments for the war against Russia (see also the Ukrainian Defense Minister’s video above): “The provision of fighter jets is not a discussion we should lead.”

Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Andriy Melnyk had previously stated that he assumed Germany would supply fighter jets to his country. And in this regard, he called for a quick decision: “German experts also say that Germany will provide the fighter jets, it is only a matter of time.” The longer the debate lasts, the more difficult it will be for Ukraine and for Russia to liberate occupied territories.

Meanwhile, extremely bloody fighting continues in eastern Ukraine, especially around the strategically important town of Bakhmut. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg promised further military aid. According to Stoltenberg, Russian President Vladimir Putin has no intention of making peace.

US steps up pressure on Kiev
The US, meanwhile, assumes that the war could be decided by the summer. However, in the coming offensive, they see Russia in the advantage and that it would be difficult for Ukraine to defend Bakhmut and go on the offensive at the same time. In addition, it would become more difficult in the future to support Ukraine to the same extent as before.
