The consumer price index (CPI) rose by two-tenths in January in the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV) to 5.6% and in Navarre to 6.4%, according to final data for January released today by the National Institute for the Statistics (INE).
Prices of food and alcoholic drinks have increased by 15% in their annual rate in the Basque Country. It thus continues the trend of recent months, as it has been above 15% since October. Compared to December, it is down one-tenth. As for Navarre, food and alcohol prices have moderated their increase to 15.7%, two tenths less than in December.

The CPI rose to 5.9% in Spain in January compared to the same month last year. Year-on-year inflation was 5.7% in December, two-tenths lower than in January.
Food prices are moderating their rise to 15.4% at their inter-annual rate, three-tenths less than in December, following the VAT reduction that applied to certain products in the shopping basket.
For its part, core inflation (excluding unprocessed food and energy products) has risen to 7.5%.
