40 ads a day – another sad record of violence against women

Date:

The number of entry and approach bans shot up to 14,643 last year. There are an average of 40 advertisements per day.

These are dramas that usually take place behind our own four walls, ie where women and children should feel safest. But this is exactly where the partner’s danger lurks.

In the previous year, the police issued 14,643 entry and approach bans. So an average of 40 advertisements per day. In 2021 there were still 13,690. In addition, 11,923 consultations were held for risk groups (90 percent are men).

Budget for protection against violence doubled
The increase is partly due to increased awareness in society. Relatives and neighbors don’t look the other way as often as they used to, and more and more victims are finding the courage to end their martyrdom. In addition, Minister Susanne Raab of Women’s Affairs managed to double the budget during her term of office.

A large part of this will again flow to protection against violence this year. “This year I will also put a new focus on shelters and temporary housing for women who are victims of violence and their children,” says Raab. With 24.6 million euros, it is the largest budget for protection against violence in the history of the Second Republic. Interior Minister Karner also points to the close network between the police and victim protection organizations.
