According to Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, Norway will be able to sustain its increased gas production for a few more years. The country now supplies almost a third (30 percent) of Europe’s gas needs. Customers include Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic.
Norway increased its production by 10 percent last year and now supplies 30 percent of Europe’s gas needs. “I have told the partners here that we can maintain this level for the next four or five years,” said Munich Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store on the sidelines of the security conference. At the same time, however, it is important to invest in renewable energy. “There is a massive energy transformation that we need to support.”
Store did not comment on prices. “No one can say what will happen in the coming months,” it said.
Czech Republic independent of Russian gas
Countries that are now getting more gas from Norway are Germany and the Czech Republic. In the Czech Republic, imports of Russian natural gas fell to zero in January, Industry and Trade Minister Jozef Sikela announced on Saturday evening. Our neighboring country has been covering almost all its needs from Russia in recent years. However, after deliveries through the Nord Stream pipeline ceased, it was possible to replace them with imports through Germany from other sources. In addition to Norway, Belgium and the Netherlands also play a role with LPG.
