Climate protest – Berlin: Activists cut down a tree in front of the Chancellery

Date:

Activists of the last generation felled a tree in front of the German Chancellery in Berlin on Tuesday. The action is intended to indicate that the government continues to actively promote the destruction of livelihoods. “She’s sawing the branch we’re all sitting on,” the statement said.

“Every minute, 42 football fields of forest are silently cut down, important carbon sinks for our future,” the last generation writes on Twitter (tweet below). By sawing down the poplar in front of the Reich Chancellery, you ‘make visible this devastation in the middle of Berlin’.

Forests are one of the most important parts of our livelihood, but the traffic light government in Berlin continues their destruction, complains the last generation. Whether it is direct reclamation of new highways and gravel pits or a further escalation of the climate catastrophe and the associated increasing forest fires and widespread forest dieback, is the criticism of the campaigners.

The dead tree stump, practically at the Chancellor’s doorstep, now stands as a memorial to what has long been apparent but still happens as a matter of course: “The Federal Government is very actively engaged in the destruction of our livelihoods. It is sawing the branch where we all sit.”
