The Viennese energy bonus is extended. A good measure that will benefit more than half a million Viennese. Due to the sky-high energy bill, however, the support only helps minimally.
Energy costs are rising to dizzying heights and many households can no longer afford them. However, a drop in the ocean for only part of the Viennese population is the Viennese energy bonus. At the end of last year, 585,800 Viennese households already benefited from 200 euros. Now the sequel follows. Every single-person household with a gross annual income of less than 40,000 euros is eligible. For multi-person households, the gross limit is 100,000 euros.
“This is support for small and medium-sized enterprises and that is necessary,” said Councilor for Economic Affairs Peter Hanke (SPÖ). The expenditure for the 2023 energy bonus amounts to 130 million euros, of which 96 million euros comes from the federal heating allowance. Anyone who has already applied for the Vienna Energy Bonus in 2022 will automatically receive it on their account. All others will receive the application by post. The amount will be deposited into your account within three days. A unique achievement for Hanke, which would demonstrate how well the administration works.
Most support comes from the federal government
Social councilor Peter Hacker (SPÖ) also praises the model. Unlike the opposition. Ingrid Korosec of the ÖVP emphasizes that most of the money comes from the federal government. And for Maximilian Krauss (FPÖ), the bonus is a slap in the face to Viennese, whose needs for electricity, gas and district heating have increased fivefold. Anyone who now pays 600 euros for district heating every two months instead of 150 euros will not make much progress. And according to Hanke, the now lower gas price will probably not relieve customers until the heating period 2023/24.
