According to a proposal from the European Commission, tariffs on imports from Ukraine will be suspended for another year. They are intended to strengthen Ukraine’s war-weakened economy. However, to avoid negative consequences for EU farmers, a new protection mechanism is planned.
In case of doubt, certain rates must be able to be quickly reintroduced.
EU countries such as Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia recently complained that significantly more feed and food was entering their countries because of the excise duty exemption. This could cause serious problems for EU producers.
The aid for Ukraine was introduced in the middle of last year in response to the Russian offensive war (see video above). They are intended to strengthen Ukraine’s war-weakened economy and, according to the will of the EU commission, will now be extended until mid-2024. However, the EU parliament and EU countries have yet to agree.
